Last Friday the 21st August, myself, Louis Price and Stan Shilton travelled from Bristol to Dusseldorf in Germany where the boys took part in the Andro Kids Open. The Open is Europe’s biggest Table Tennis event with over 1400 youth participants.

In the under 12 category Louis Price had a great run to the semi-finals where he lost to the eventual winner 11-9 in the fifth. A great result with lots of matches over the weekend gaining Louis a bronze medal. Louis has been training very hard leading up to he event having taken part in training camps in Belgium and France. With over 40 countries represented, this marked a great end to a successful summer on Louis hectic table tennis schedule.

In the under 13 category Stan Shilton made it through to the last 16 losing a tight 5 setter to a strong opponent from Germany. The duo gained excellent experience with a lot of matches against a wide variation of players with different styles. An excellent International debut for Stan Shitlon.

Bristol Table Tennis Coach Dan Ives, commented – “their hard work is paying off, a great result competing against some very good European players”.

It was a great to see so many players from all ages participating. I was there helping and giving advice to players I coach who were also representing my website TableTennisDaily throughout the day. In particular TableTennisDaily’s Dean Cundy who won the prestigious Men’s Singles title for a fourth year in a row. This is the first time this has been achieved since the 1970’s.
